2007 Federal Minimum Wage Increase

2007 Federal Minimum Wage Increase

On May 25th, 2007 - President Bush signed into law House Resolution 2206, which included the “Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007.”

The Act provides for a three-step increase in the federal minimum wage, beginning with an initial increase from the current $5.15 per hour to $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007. The federal minimum wage will then increase again from $5.85 to $6.55 on July 24, 2008 and $7.25 per hour two years after the first increase, which will be July 24, 2009.

U.S. Department of Labor has updated the content on the Federal Minimum Wage poster. It does state that the increased minimum wage will take effect on July 24, 2007 which is 60 days from the date of the bill’s enactment in addition to text regarding Tip Credit, Child Labor and Overtime Rules. The Department of Labor has provided a final posting electronically and we have edited this into our state and federal combination posters. The government will not enforce having a poster until they actually print the posters for distribution, so don't worry if you don't have the poster up on your walls by 7/24/07.
